The Carlsbad Marathon

I ran the Carlsbad Marathon last Sunday in 4:15:10! And I felt
great afterwards. 
That’s a 9:45 minute mile in case you’re wondering.
People I need to thank:
* I want to thank the pacesetters I ran with: Tino and Kindra.
I couldn’t have done it without you two.
* Thanks to Heather from Portland who gave me the jelly beans
at Mile 25 when I had nothing left.
* Thanks to my sister Shannon who let me stay at her place in
Laguna Beach on Friday and Sunday, and fed me pasta, wine,
and rocky road ice cream. And thanks for loaning me the
Yellow Submarine (an old yellow Mercedes) so I wouldn’t
have to rent a car.
* Thanks to Eric in Laguna Niguel who gave me a beer, a protein
bar, a handful of dates, and a foot rub after the race (six hours later).
* Thanks to my running partner Janet who made me sign up for
the marathon, and then made me start with the 4:15 pace group
because she said I could do it, AND let me share a room with her
in Carlsbad the night before the race.
That’s me crossing the finish line on the far right. I finished 11th
in my division, and in the top third overall (men and women).
Why The Muse Went Dark

I know, I know, I have been such a MySpace slacker!
You guys all know that I don’t blog about my personal life that much, so you only see a small slice of my life through this blog. There are many reasons I haven’t been blogging lately, and these are just a few:
* I was fed up with MySpace and the broken blog indexing. I can’t find anything!
* I have had a few gnarly technical writing jobs where I’m writing for eight or nine hours a day, and the last thing I want to do when I get home is get on the computer and write a blog.
* Then I was unemployed and couldn’t get unemployment because I’m self employed. Yeah, good one.
* I was dealing with a court battle (thank goodness that’s over with).
* I was dealing with some medical issues (all good now).
* I was going through a long, painful break up with someone I love very much. We still love each other, but relationships are all about timing, and the timing for us was just plain awful.
* I’m in the middle of a real estate deal that has taken almost a year to complete, and it’s almost done!
I was in a very dark place for a while when all of this was happening, but I am a survivor. I am an eternal optimist, and karma will smile on me.
No one likes to read depressing blogs, so I just decided to take some space and deal with myself in private for a while.
So, if I still have any readers left, please say hi!

Cheers and Jeers for 2008
Cheers: to America for NOT falling for under the Palin spell, and seeing right through the fancy clothes and folksy drivel. I’m more qualified for Vice President than she is.
Jeers: to Senator John McCain for actually proposing a $5000 tax credit to help us all pay our insurance. I’m sorry, sphincter says what? How will a tax credit help me pay my monthly premium and my $1500 deductible? And, you are assuming we can all get insurance. I have a whole blog coming on this subject. Grrrr.
Jeers: to Rod Blagojevitch for trying to sell Barack’s senate seat, and denying it. Never mind the 45 days of tapes from the wiretapping. Is that hair for real?
Cheers: to my lawyer in L.A. who successfully won my unlawful detainer case, and kicked out my renter who hadn’t paid a dime for almost a year. Carolyn, you rock!
Cheers: to my real estate agent Sharon who has worked tirelessly since last March trying to negotiate a short sale with Countrywide.
Jeers: to Countrywide for making it so painful for me to try to sell my house in L.A. I have brought you guys 10 short-sale offers since March and you have rejected all of them. Do you really think you’ll get more money elsewhere? Have you not noticed the housing market is in the toilet? Let’s hope the 11th offer (on the table now) is the charm.
Cheers: to my friend Janet for mapping out all of the training runs for the Carlsbad Marathon, and motivating me to get my butt out of bed at 6am every Saturday to do the long runs. The marathon is January 25th, and we are ready to kick ass!
Cheers: to all of the companies who hired me last year to write for them. You guys kept my heat and my lights on. Thank you.
Cheers: to the Best Buy people for hiring me to be Mrs. Miller last year. Best print job I’ve ever had.
Cheers: to all of my blog readers (especially those of you who have been subscribers since the beginning). I love the banter in the comments. You make my day.
